Director of Commercial Development & Engagement
Thank you for considering the Peak District National Park Authority as a place to work.
The Peak District National Park plays a special role well beyond its borders. It is of international, national, regional, and local importance. Established in 1951, it was the UK’s first National Park; there are now fifteen. Our National Parks have been designated because of their natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage – the ‘special qualities’ that make them so important – and they provide a breathing space and opportunities for learning, discovery and enjoyment for millions of people.
The Peak District National Park is a landscape of contrasts, from the tranquillity of limestone plateaus to gritstone climbing edges, peaty moors to hay meadows that have been shaped by people and industry since pre-historic times. It attracts 12.25 million visits a year, it is home to some 38,000 residents and provides approximately 18,000 jobs, many of which are based on the special qualities.
The Peak District National Park Authority is the custodian of the Peak District National Park. Our job is to speak up for and nurture the National Park for all to enjoy forever. Our staff are specialists with expert knowledge about the place, providing an independent, reasoned voice caring for the whole National Park. We work closely with partners and communities to help us achieve shared aspirations. As the original National Park we have a pioneering spirit, and our role to grow the care for and love and support of the place is born out of the history of people almost a century ago campaigning for access and care of our beautiful landscapes.
We want to be a thriving organisation and are making changes to lead a confident future. This role is leading an important change to enable a wider audience to connect with and enjoy the National Park so they feel moved to care for and willing to contribute towards its upkeep. That way we can diversify and grow our funding, building on our valued government grant.
As a National Park Authority we operate within a public sector governance framework, which I am seeking to develop to enable us to have a progressive agenda for generating public support of our work. You will need to be adept at working within this framework and involving, inspiring and developing staff to be more agile and supporting partners on this journey.
This is an exciting time in developing our culture as an organisation to be fit for the future so we are well placed to maximise the opportunities available to us. We recently published the next 5 year partnership plan for the place, the National Park Management Plan, and are developing our next 5 year Corporate Strategy. We are seeking a Director of Commercial Development and Engagement to join our Senior Leadership Team to move this programme.
Again, thank you for considering working with us. Our future is exciting, come join us.
